Pont du Gard, King of the Gardon

The Pont du Gard is a majestuous legacy of Roman times that spans the Gardon River, where the waters are still high after the heavy rains. It's early spring, 4:30pm and the sky is variable. From the right bank, the backlit arches of the aqueduct and the dazzling sun, a jewel in the crown, dominate the panorama. A luscious grass blanket covers part of the riverbanks and the saplings and shrubs timidly exhibit their first leaves. But the warmest colours of the imperial sovereign are best seen from the opposite bank. The Pont du Gard aqueduct is imposing from all points of view!
