The June 2026 heatwave will more than likely be a landmark in climate change statistics... Fields, mudflats and ponds are drying up and wildlife in Camargue is adjusting The usual summer visiters like the collared pratincole, swooping around in the sky to catch flying insects, and the purple heron are here...
Between sun and shade, food is their main concern. Teenage grey herons waiting for their parents, the squacco heron foraging in the remains of the wetland flats, the spotted flycatcher, the coypu and the dragon flies shining in the dark and even the white spoonbill are all on the look-out... Then the evening storms start brewing up on the horizon of Petite Camargue... it did rain a couple of weeks ago but we've forgotten. A breath of fresh air?... not yet...
